The co owner of which department store died in the sinking of the Titanic? Explained

In 1912, the RMS Titanic tragically went down in the North Atlantic Ocean, succumbing to an iceberg less than three hours after the collision. Among the doomed passengers were Isidor Straus and his wife Ida. Isidor, who co-owned Macy's department store alongside his brother Nathan Straus, made a courageous decision on the fateful night. He declined to board a lifeboat while women and children still needed rescue. Ida expressed her resolve to remain by his side, stating, "I will not be separated from my husband. As we have lived, so will we die, together." Tragically, both lost their lives when the ship sank at 2:20 a.m.
